load carrying capacity for the same amount of deflection. These springs are
made to withstand extremely high compression loads in harsh conditions. Die
springs are used in other industries as well, but they are primarily made for
punch presses to give dependable and consistent resistance.Round-cornered
rectangular wire is used to make die springs. Die springs function in a manner
similar to conventional compression springs in that energy is stored when a
load is applied and the spring seeks to maintain the separation of two
components. For springs made from the same wire, a tighter spring winding
results in a higher spring rate.
Die springs can be wound either counter-clockwise or clockwise. The
direction of the wind usually has little bearing because the load is applied
laterally. Die springs come in two different coil end configurations: closed and
open. The coil pitch of closed-end die springs is decreased until the wire end
touches the coil next to it. The spring's final coil is now unfinished and
useless as a result. The compression of the spring might be slightly changed. The point of wire termination does not have
a pitch reduction in open-end die springs. Without being grounded, this results
in an uneven surface, though die machines may
